local Exhaust Ventilation (LEV)

The COSHH Regulations impose a duty to ensure that all LEV systems must be inspected & tested by a competent person at least every 14 months.

  • LEV inspections as required under COSHH regulation 9 ‘Maintenance Examination & Testing of Control Measures’
  • Inspections in accordance with HSG258 “Controlling airborne contaminants at work”
  • Capture velocities, face velocities, duct (transport) velocities & static pressure readings
  • Thorough examination of all system parts for wear & tear. Solid ductwork, flexi hoses, seals, dampers
  • Examination of full enclosures (containment), partial enclosures (spray booths, fume cupboards), receiver hoods (grinding, canopy), capture hoods (welding, soldering, lip extraction, downdraught tables)
  • Checks on abatements – fans, filters, wet arrestors, self cleaning systems (shake down, air jet pulse)
  • Comparison of data with commissioning reports, user manuals, logbooks or previous test reports
